This January, Northwestern Medicine Huntley Health & Fitness Center kicked off the year with a series of group exercise classes specially designed for beginners. Led by our expert instructors, these classes introduced members to some of our most popular group fitness formats, including group cycle, yoga, Barre and strength training.
Held on Jan. 5 and 14, our beginner cycle classes were designed to help participants master the basics of indoor cycling. Attendees learned how to set up their bikes, adjust tension and navigate the console, making the experience more accessible for beginners.
“The beginner cycle class is designed to focus more on individuals and their specific concerns or needs,” says Becky, our beginner cycle instructor. “There is no better feeling than looking out at a cycling group and seeing those ‘beginners’ integrated into the cycling community…working hard, having fun and feeling good about themselves and their fitness journeys.”
Held on Jan. 12 and 13, this beginner-friendly class combined elements of ballet, Pilates and yoga to create a full-body workout that’s as effective as it is fun. Our certified instructor led participants through basic movements, providing plenty of support and encouragement along the way.
On Jan. 9 and 13, our beginner yoga sessions introduced participants to foundational yoga poses while deepening their understanding of the practice with personalized instruction.
“Teaching these beginner classes was very important for me to offer support to those just beginning their journeys for all aspects of health: physical, mental and emotional,” says Bradey, our beginner yoga instructor. “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to grow our community. It makes me feel fulfilled to lead a practice that connects with an individual.”
Our introductory strength classes, held on Jan. 19 and 23, offered a hands-on approach to building lean muscle and increasing bone density. Participants learned how to use various pieces of equipment with proper form, ensuring safety and effectiveness.
These beginner-friendly classes were a wonderful way for new and returning members to ease into group fitness with guidance and support from our experienced instructors. “Whether you are brand new to a fitness class or perhaps returning after a while, being safe and building confidence is essential to feeling accomplished and returning to take that class again,” says Becky.
Join us for an upcoming Barre, yoga, strength, or cycle class and experience the fun for yourself. View our class schedule and find a time that works for you.
